BOOTRAILER PROJECT FOR ELT. STEP BY STEP GUIDE.

Reading is essential to improve in any language. Together with this, it is a great opportunity to learn from different cultures, grammar an also enjoy. 

BOOKTRAILER PROJECT. JUANA MORAL'S ENGLISH SITE

This project uses Graded Readers as a basis in order to create BOOKTRAILERS in English.

In the following lines, I am going to offer a step by step guide to create your own project and combine reading with COMMUNICATION (SPEAKING), video creation (IT) and creativity. Don't miss it!

• Let's read a great book. 

• Essential: focus on the most important/ shocking parts of our book. They will be part of our trailer. 

• WHAT IS A BOOKTRAILER?

• A booktrailer is a short video (up to 2 minutes) which includes the most relevant elements in a book (it can also be a film). 
• It tries to raise interest, it doesn't have to tell the whole story. It can include questions to make the person watching want to read the book. 
• It can combine video, pictures (photos, for example) and also text to raise interest
• In this case, it has to contain sentences, dialogues or elements in English, related to the main events in our book. 
• Pronunciation is essential here. 

• Let's create the script

It is not a normal script. It combines several elements, therefore, it is advisable to use a chart like this:

Duration	PICTURE/VIDEO	TEXT  (ORAL OR WRITTEN)	SOUNDS	EXTRA  INFO

• Pre-correction

It is time for the teacher to organise ideas, give advice and correction to students. It will improve their results. 

• Shooting

You can use your camera or a mobile phone. Use the following guide to help you

Some interesting apps: 

• Imovie. Great for IPAD OR IPHONE. 
• Filmorago. It has both a computer and mobile phone version which is easy to use. 
• Power point: great to get "front pictures" for your video.
• Windows Movie Maker. Essential in computer to create great videos. Easy to use.

Final and essential part of our project in order to compare our projects, learn from our mistakes and from our mates' work.

Always, try to answer the following questions: 

• Does my video show the main events in the book?
• Is the use of English adequate?
• Is the pronunciation and fluency correct? To what extent?
• Was cooperation fostered? Did my mates take my ideas into account? Did I/they make interesting suggestions for the project?
• What was the best video you saw? Why? 

• Conclusion

 Booktrailers are a cool and versatile way to test cooperative work and reading comprehension. However, we can say that it is not the best way to test speaking for the following reasons:

• Duration: booktrailers only last for two minutes or o
• Dialogues must be short
• You can use images, pictures and read instead of speaking
• There is little or no improvisation, as it is based on a script.
