This lesson plan is focused on learning how to speak English when travelling. It is really useful if you are planning to go abroad. The first section shows some vocabulary at the airport , and a presentation which includes two dialogue examples, too. We are going to create our own dialogues using all we have learnt here.
Then, you can also watch a video to practise useful expressions and pronunciation:
First of all, let us see the following picture from Fluentland:

Here, you've got some typical conversation tips at an airport, watch this video and focus on pronunciation and discourse:
OUR TASK:
- There are three or four characters at the airport:
- You are going to take a flight. You are waiting patiently (or not) at the airport (invent that situation)
- You may have problems such as: you have lost your boarding pass, you don't remember your flight number, you need a cash machine...
- A friend or family memeber to talk to. You are both going to need extra information from an information desk. (your flight might be delayed, or you may not know the gate, OR ANY other important place at the airport)
- At the information desk or CHEK IN COUNTER: you are going to help people who have questions about flights. Be polite in all cases.
- Security officer (optional). This person can ask extra questions about the luggage to the travellers
- Create a short dialogue including these three or four characters, use the video and presentation as a guide
- Don't forget to recycle any other vocabulary you know: plans, predictions, talk about past experiences on journeys, describe the city you are travelling to...
- BE CREATIVE!!!
